The 43rd President of the United States, George W. Bush, has tested positive for COVID-19, his office has said in a statement.

The former President took the test after two persons he had contact with tested positive for the deadly virus, the statement said.

“Mr. Bush is doing well and showing no symptoms of coronavirus”.

He has been quarantined and being managed at home, and according to his medical team, it has not yet become necessary to have him admitted at the hospital as they believe he may recover from home.

President George W. Bush enjoyed some positive press few days ago following the publication of a report detailing his efforts as president to prepare the United States for a viral outbreak.

“George W. Bush in 2005: ‘If we wait for a pandemic to appear, it will be too late to prepare,’” reads the headline to an April 5 ABC News report.

The story comes as the Trump administration continues to defend itself from well-deserved criticism of its disastrous handling of the COVID-19 virus pandemic, which has infected more than 325,000 U.S. residents and killed more than 9,200.

“In the summer of 2005,” the ABC story recounts, “President George W. Bush was on vacation at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, when he began flipping through an advanced copy of a new book about the 1918 flu pandemic. He couldn’t put it down.”
