Prime Minister Boris Johnson has died after contracting the deadly coronavirus, Downing Street has said.

The Prime Minister tested positive for the virus last week and was admitted to hospital last night after his condition called for medical attention and further tests.

Mr Johnson, 55, died while on admission.

He was moved to intensive care in hospital after his coronavirus symptoms worsened, Downing Street has said.

He “continued to have persistent symptoms of coronavirus”, a spokeswoman said – including a high temperature.

Mr Johnson worked from home since it was announced that he had tested positive for coronavirus on 27 March and it is not known why he stayed home instead of seeking for medical treatment.

He chaired a coronavirus meeting via video-link on Friday morning.

He was last seen in public applauding the NHS and other key workers from his flat in Downing Street on Thursday.
